Is aiming based on real ballistics?

The game uses its own simplified model, not real-world trajectory physics. The Manual Aiming page will document the observed relationship between charges, elevation, and range as tested in the current build.

Why did a precise calculator result still miss?

A correct calculation can still miss if the bearing, shell, or charges entered on the gun differ from the solution. Treat the firing card as the single source of truth for the shot.
